CALCTP-Advanced Lighting Control

Updated On: Feb 22, 2010 (12:57:00)

CALCTP is a new program operated by representatives of the CA Lighting Technology Center, CA Energy Commission, CA Community College system, public utilities, electrical contractors, electrical workers, and manufacturers of advanced, high efficiency lighting and control systems.

CALCTP will educate, train, and certify electrical contractors and electricians in the best prctices and most effective techniques to install, tune, commission, and maintain advanced lighting control systems.

In support of CALCTP, several LCA (Lighting Controls Association)Education Express online courses are now required as prerequsites before receiving live training by CALCTP. These include EE 101: Intrtoduction to Lighting Control, EE 102: Switching Control, EE 103: Fluorescent Dimming and EE 201: Daylight Harvesting. Students may take these courses at any time, at their own pace, from anywhere, and for free; only a short registration is required.

The live training is a 32 - 40 hour hands on lab being offered, at this time, at the Sacramento and San Mateo JATC's. If you are interested in getting certified in this special skill visit "Education Express"(see below) web site and sign up for the on line course(s). After completion of the prerequsites you decide to continue with the live training, contact Steve Stobel and he will help get you registered with either of the two JATC's that are offering our members seats in their classes.

Notes On Journeymen C.E. Credit

Updated On: Dec 10, 2009 (13:44:00)

Notes to Journeyman - We have been receiving a lot of calls regarding the issue below.  This office contacted the DAS Electrician's Certification Unit and received the following clarification:

Continuing education will count if a Journeyman took courses after they passed their exam and became certified. So, for example, if they were not certified until May 1st, 2006 .. they cannot count any credit for anything before May 1st, 2006. This will also be true for those who renewed certifications. If they renewed this year (May 1st, 2009), for the next renewal date (May 1st, 2012), CEs will only count for any courses taken after May 1st, 2009 and not anything before.

If you have any further questions, please contact the DAS Electrician's Certification Unit directly at: 415-703-4919.
